剛體變換（rigid transformation）一般分為如下幾種：
- 平移對象，而不改變形狀和大小；
- 鏡像（reflection），左右顛倒；
- 旋轉（rotation），沿着任意方向的旋轉；
非剛體變換：描述的是對幾何物體大小而非形狀的改變。
也即：
- 剛體變換：shift or reflection（A rigid transformation preserves all distances and angle measures (and depending on your taste, orientation too)，剛體變換能夠繼續保持物體中各點的距離和角度）
- 非剛體變換：stretching or shrinking
