LeetCode: Lowest Common Ancestor of a Binary Search Tree 解題報告

Given a binary search tree (BST), find the lowest common ancestor (LCA) of two given nodes in the BST.

According to the definition of LCA on Wikipedia: “The lowest common ancestor is defined between two nodes v and w as the lowest node in T that has both v and w as descendants (where we allow a node to be a descendant of itself).”

For example, the lowest common ancestor (LCA) of nodes 2 and 8 is 6. Another example is LCA of nodes 2 and 4 is 2, since a node can be a descendant of itself according to the LCA definition.

SOLUTION 1:

使用遞歸可以輕松解決此問題。對於此題我們可以分為三種情況討論:

1. P, Q都比root小,則LCA在左樹,我們繼續在左樹中尋找LCA

2. P, Q都比root大,則LCA在右樹,我們繼續在右樹中尋找LCA

3. 其它情況,表示P,Q在root兩邊,或者二者其一是root,或者都是root,這些情況表示root就是LCA,直接返回root即可。
