on the whole，as a whole
這兩個詞組的詞義有點接近，但也有細微的差異。
On the whole 表示“大體上”、“基本上”、“整體上”。例：
Your thesis is well-done on the whole.
你的論文基本上寫得不錯。
My opinion，on the whole，is the same as yours.
我的意見大體上和你的相同。
On the whole I agree to your proposal.
我基本上同意你的建議。
As a whole表示“從整個來看”、“就全體而言”、“總括而論”。例：
I analyzed his words as a whole.
我是把他的言論作為一個整體來分析的。
We must look at the educational problem as a whole.
我們必須從整體的角度來考慮教育問題。
The climate of China，as a whole，is mild.
總體而論，中國的氣候是溫和的。
On the whole和as a whole在句中的語序比較靈活，既可放在句末，也可放在句首和句子的中部。
