name after, name for, name as

name after是一個常見用法  : 

　1.Her parents named her Sophia after her grandmother.　她父母按她祖母的名字給她起名索菲婭。 
  2.She was named Sophia after her grandmother.　她是以她祖母索菲婭的名字命名的。 

在美國英語里常常使用name for  : 
  1.The college is named for George Washington.(LDCE)　這個學院是以喬治·華盛頓的名字命名的。 

  2.We named him for his father.(LDCE)　我們用他父親的名字給他命名。 

只有當name作“提名”、“任命”解時,才可以與as連用  。例如: 

  The President named him as Secretary of State.(LDCE)　總統任命他為國務卿。
