Daily English Dictation
1
Mother Teresa, who received a Nobel Peace Price for her work on behalf of the poor, dies in Calcuffa, India—she was 87 years old.
1. work 中的k浊化 2. on behalf of : for 3. dies 而非 died,原因是:讲述这件事的时候就会把我们带回到那个时代,所以不用past tense. |
2. cancellation of 'h'
Q: Jerry, what time do you have?
A: I have 5 o'clock.
1. "do you" 发音嘴唇放平,不再是圆形嘴型。 2. "have" 中 "h" is canceled when you speak fast. 7Hs: he her him his had has have "h" is canceled when you speak fast3. "have" 中 "v" 因为后面"5" five,首音为/f/,所以前面的/v/ is canceled. 4. 这句话的意思是“几点了? 五点了。” 而不是“你几点有空” |
3. 'to' / pumpkin
There are 3 things I have learned.
Never to discuss with people:
religion, politics and the Great Pumpkin.
1. "There are" 连读。 2. "have" 中 "h" is canceled when you speak fast. 3. Never 重读。 |
4. to 的发音Shane标为 tuh ,听起来是 /tə/ |
5. Pumpkin 在俚语中是“人物”的意思,so “the Great Pumpkin": 大人物 大人物=somebody=pumpkin 小喽啰=nobody6.老师提到 [ˈsæntə klɔz] ,一时没反应过来:Santa Claus —— 圣诞老人 |

4. cancellation: weak sounds next to strong sounds
Don 't ever let somebody tell you
you can 't do something.
这里 “tell you” 并没有连读 |
- Rule of cancellation:
strong sounds: S N L
weak sounds: d t th
If d / t / th is next to S / N / L,
many times, d / t / th is cancelled.
e.g. You an(d) I
The 'n' cancels the 'd', and we connect the /n/ sound.
e.g. in(t)ernational
the 'n' kills the 't'
2. something In daily English, we have a spelling, and the spelling is: sump'n /sʌm n/ "p" 不发音,at 'p',stop! /n/鼻音,or you can close your lips. So it basically like an 'm', but we write it with an 'n'. |
5. pronunciation of 'to'
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubblegum.
pronunciation of 'to'
'to' have 7 different sounds:
to...tah...tuh...t'...dah...duh...d'
'to'的7种读法 详见Coach Shane B站视频(start from 02:15)
"kick ass" ck /k/ 浊化
'out of' has a special spelling for daily English":
outta .Because the typical pronunciation is not 'out of', we say it 'outta' [ˈaʊtə],听起来是[ˈaʊdə]
and I'm all out of bubblegum:
kick ass an-ahm-al-outta.
1. 此处'to' 读作 duh 句意:What is that mean, I'm out of bubblegum? I have no bg, I have zero bg. So why is he here? **To kick ass!** |
kick ass on somebody
means to fight them, to shoot them, to kill them.
But to kick ass on the test, means to do a really good job on the test.
